Overloaded With Attributes Chapter 38
This is... Probably... a Really Big Problem
"C'mon, they called it 'Explorer Registration'! I was on high alert, expecting some grizzled old adventurer to try and shake me down! What is this? If it's just paperwork, we could've done this by mail!"
"What exactly were you expecting?" Shizuka sighed. "If you tried that inside a LAB—Labyrinth Administration Bureau—facility, you'd be suspended on the spot. Besides, you're the only male, regardless of age, who even wants to be an Explorer. 'Old man adventurers' don't exist, at least not in Japan."
...I guess that's true.
"Wait, 'Love'? Anyway, c'mon! There should be... you know! Like, you touch a magic orb to 'appraise' your power and it explodes! Or you register your blood (DNA) on a guild tag! Or the receptionist says, 'And now, could you please say... Status Open!'"
"If they installed a defective item that just exploded, the person responsible would be fired," Atena deadpanned. "And besides, items that can 'read a person's abilities' don't exist."
"(Status Open... fufu... Status Open... Hey, why don't you try yelling it while striking a shubabababa pose?)"
...This kid is really enjoying messing with me.
"Okay, if not an item, what about a special department that uses a skill to check?"
"Yuugiri-kun, it's not the item, the method itself for measuring a living being's strength doesn't exist," Shizuka explained.
"Yeah," Atena added. "I've heard you can use 'Appraisal Glasses' from the dungeon to find out what an item does... but it's not like they're cheap enough for just anyone to carry around."
I almost shot back a retort, but... with other people around... I swallowed it. ...Because... right now... There are two 'status' windows floating in front of my eyes. They look like some kind of cyber-AR display.
The first one probably reacted to the word "Appraisal."
Akashi Shizuka Age: 15 / Japanese / ♀ Level: 00/50 / Class: None Total Combat Power: 63 / Equip Bonus: None → Special Skills: None
The second one must have reacted to "Status Open."
Kashiwagi Yuugiri Age: 15 / Japanese (Isekai) / ♂ Level: 00/50 / Class: None Total Combat Power: 58 / Equip Bonus: Almost None Blessing: Isekai Merchant → Tap [HERE] to view Skill List
...Considering what those two just said, this is definitely something I can't let anyone find out about.
"...Shizuka-san."
"Y-Yes..."
"Right now... what... do you see in my eyes?"
"S-So suddenly! In a place like this... w-what are you...? Is this... a new kind of 'play'...? I... I can only see you... my future husband..."
That's... not what I meant. Okay, so only I can see these. Convenient, but also inconvenient.
Anyway, back to the Appraisal screen. This is way different from what the "Church" used back in the isekai. 'Level 00/50'? Does that mean the max level is 50? The other world didn't have a level cap. And what the hell is 'Total Combat Power'? Don't summarize! Give me the details, like HP and MP! I can't tell if I'm strong or weak... well, I'm Level 0 and about 10% weaker than Shizuka, so I'm guessing "weak."
'Class' means 'Job' or 'Role,' right? Shouldn't it say 'Warrior' or 'Mage'? Or at least 'Student'? 'None' has to be wrong. And skills. Why do I have them and she doesn't?
Look, when I got kicked out of the isekai, they were supposed to have stripped me of all my levels and skills. So why can I still use 'Appraisal' and 'Self-Appraisal' ('Status Open')? And why is my 'Blessing' still here? ...Wait. Maybe it's not so weird. What they said when they teleported me was: 'By the way, all experience and items gained in this world will be reset.'
That means... the Blessing, which I got before I was sent to the isekai... it's not strange that it's still here. ...No, wait, it is. Because... who the hell gave this to me in the first place? ...Not that I'm complaining! I'll take all the blessings I can get.
And what's with "Japanese (Isekai) Person"?! I mean, sure, this isn't my original Japan, so technically I'm an 'isekai-jin'... but isn't that a little blunt? Why not 'Parallel-Worlder' or... okay, that just sounds shadier.
"Alright! I'm calm."
"(Yuu-kun retreats into his shell a lot.)"
"I was just thinking!" Anyway! No point whining. Time to check my skills. How do I... just tap the [HERE]...
"Nnfuu... Yuugiri-kun, why did you... 'poke' my forehead? N-Not that I disliked it... but it was just... so sudden..." Shizuka gasped, sounding like a certain celebrity.
...It wasn't a tap! My finger went right through the screen! Crap, now Atena next to me looks like a cat about to pounce! ...Well, at least the menu changed.
The skills I had were:
Self-Appraisal: The status screen that just popped up.
Isekai Language: Read/write/speak isekai languages. I wonder if this works on Earth languages now? English? Chinese? Swahili?
Spatial Storage: Your basic inventory. Capacity is 'MP-dependent.' (But my MP isn't listed!) And it's the "unfriendly" version where time doesn't stop for items inside.
These three were the "Isekai Transfer Starter Pack" (as Hero Yoshioka-kun called it).
And these four were from my "Isekai Merchant" Blessing:
Appraisal: See stats on people/monsters and item details (quality, standard market price). Useful, but not OP enough to make you a superstar. (Source: my time as a merchant.)
Negotiation: Gives you an edge when bargaining with non-hostile targets. Results depend on their "friendship level."
Auto-Collect Drop Items: ...What's this? I didn't have this in the other world.
Magic Stone Shop: ...What's this, Part 2? It used to be called "Isekai Shop."
What the hell is a "Magic Stone Shop"? A shop for buying magic stones? Or a shop that uses magic stones as currency? If it's just a shop to buy them, that seems pretty niche... no, wait. If this is a skill that lets me buy magic stones... with cash... That means... I can get as much energy (magic stones) as I want... without ever entering the dungeon. ...That's... that's a world-economy-breaking skill, isn't it?
I tried to tap the "Magic Stone Shop" icon, just like before— "Fyu, fyuu-hiri-fun?!"
My finger went through the screen again... and this time, right into Shizuka's mouth.
"Okay, the 'shocked' part is a normal reaction! But why did you immediately start sucking on it instead of spitting it out?!"
"Ra-heh, ah-a-a-ai-hi-rari-a-hi-oh-fu-hi!"
"I CAN'T UNDERSTAND A WORD YOU'RE SAYING!" Is that a Dragon Quest resurrection spell?! Okay, people are staring. I'm pulling my finger out— ZUZOOOOZOOOOO!
"WHY ARE YOU INHALING IT?!" She suddenly activated some kind of Dyson-level suction. Crap, my finger! It's... it's all slimy and... sticky...
...By the way, the "Magic Stone Shop" screen just had a blunt message: "No business partners currently available."
"(Tiara's turn next.)"
"...Can I please wash my hand first?"
"..." This isn't an event where you all line up to suck my finger!
