Rich Girl Caretaker Vol. 2 Afterword
Afterword
This is Yusaku Sakaishi. Thank you for reading this book.
What to do? I'm already out of things to write.
I'm bad at afterwords, so I struggle every time. My real life is fundamentally empty and boring, so when it's time to write one, it feels like being pressured, "Say something funny!" Stop... that's super effective against me... Just stop.
Still, I've struggled with this more than once, so I picked up books from my predecessors to see how they do it. What I personally find nice is when they do something related to the content of their work. For example, an author writing a war story might go to a history museum, research a real battle, and write about it... something like that.
So, in imitation of my predecessors, I decided to do something extravagant, keeping my own work Saijo no Osewa in mind.
I went to eat conveyor belt sushi!!
IT WAS SOOO GOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Conveyor belt sushi is a classic trope for "ojou-sama" stories, isn't it? The ojou-sama who knows nothing of commoner life visits for the first time, shouting, "Wow!! The plates are moving!" I might use that gag in the main story one day.
Thinking about it, conveyor belt sushi must be a precious food that ojou-samas rarely get to eat. As I ate, thinking, "Hinako, Tennouji-san, and Narika don't know this deliciousness..." it tasted even better.
For the record, I love sushi, so I've been to high-end places too. If you want fresh sea urchin or big, plump salmon roe, you just have to go... high-end tuna belly (otoro) is too oily for me, so I like the medium-fatty (chutoro). The blackthroat seaperch at the last place I went was delicious, lightly seared and served with salt.
Price doesn't always equal quality. I think it's important to choose where you go based on your mood. One of my requirements for a restaurant is "ease of return," so I think conveyor belt sushi is truly awesome. Same with neighborhood Chinese places. I used to live in Kamata, which is a paradise for that.
Maybe ojou-samas also visit different places depending on their mood. Hinako seems like she'd get hooked on commoner food. If she found a place she liked, she might ask Itsuki to sneak her there... Tennouji-san is a diligent student, so she'd try anything once, but she values elegance, so she probably wouldn't return to a "vulgar" place. She seems like the type to find a dish she likes and then hunt for the best version of it. Narika would just say everything is delicious.
I'd like to write about their dinner parties again sometime.
To my editor, the proofreaders, and everyone involved. Thank you for all your advice and schedule management. To Miwabe Sakura-sensei, thank you for the wonderful illustrations again. Tennouji-san's elegant side, her depressed side, her fired-up side, and her disguised, hair-down side were all charming. Thank you for depicting her in so many appealing ways.
And finally, to the readers who bought this book, my deepest thanks.
