Rich Girl Caretaker Vol. 8 Prologue

Prologue

The day after the Management Tournament smoothly concluded.

The atmosphere at Kiou Academy... was incredibly lax.

"Sigh, Tomonari, you got any interesting topics...?"

"Nope..."

During the break, Taisho asked me listlessly. I just stared out the window and replied. Even though our conversation died, Taisho didn't seem to mind.

"Tomonari-kun, I had these super yummy macarons the other day..."

"That's nice..."

Asahi offered, fighting a yawn, but I wasn't really interested, so I just gave a noncommittal reply. She didn't seem to care, and joined me and Taisho in spacing out.

It was mid-October. The warm autumn sun made everyone sleepy.

It wasn't just the three of us. Hinako, Suminoe-san, and all the other students in the classroom seemed to be in a daze. During the Management Tournament, the breaks had been filled with intense discussions, but that scene was gone. Now, students were either napping on their desks or leaning back in their chairs, staring silently at the ceiling. Everyone was passing the time listlessly.

This atmosphere—it was, frankly, a total burnout.

It was classic burnout syndrome. The students of Kiou Academy, who were normally so serious, were now completely out of it.

The teachers, sympathizing with the dazed students, slowed the pace of their lessons. They must have been on edge during the tournament, too. For this brief moment, the teachers and students were in perfect alignment, and the entire campus was wrapped in a fog of listlessness.

For some reason, it reminded me of the high school I used to attend, and I felt a little nostalgic.

"Um, Konohana-san, there was something in class I didn't understand..."

A female student struck up a conversation with Hinako.

To maintain such a diligent attitude in this atmosphere was admirable. I should learn from her. Maybe I'll try to get motivated next break.

The student opened her textbook, and Hinako stared at the page.

"Nn... so annoying..."

"Annoying... huh?"

Oh, crap. The lax atmosphere was getting to Hinako. Her true self was slipping out.

I lightly slapped my cheeks and stood up.

Time for this caretaker to get to work.
